Windflower

Day 101 of my 365. Windflowers

April 7, 2016

Prairie Crocus: Anemone patens – The genus name Anemone comes from the Greek word for “wind.” Anemone plants are known as windflowers, because it was believed that they blossomed only when the wind blew in springtime. I found this note while looking up the correct spelling for Crocus and thought it was interesting enough to share. Today’s Landscape: Zoomed In!! Are some Prairie Crocus. I did zoom into them using a long lens which gives a different perspective than if I had used a macro lens to shoot the flowers.

There is a dog park up above the Zoo parking area and a few years ago I happened to be walking around there in the spring and saw the beautiful windflowers.. My plan for today was to drive there at lunch and make a few photos for the project as I’d seen others posting photos of prairie crocus so I knew they were out. I thought I’d be able to get low and maybe have part of the cityscape or maybe even mountains in the back gound but all of that was just wishful thinking. Even though I was pretty much at ground level it wasn’t possible to get much of a horizon and with the long lens the backgound was too blury to distingush any detail anyway.

So the photo I chose has a foreground and a hint of more flowers in the background, which I think works from a zoomed in landscape perspective.

Thanks for looking.
