I didn't start taking photos until we were walking along the creek after the turnoff from the main trail. The light was pretty in this section.
Checking out the creek.
Somehow the trail got steep when we weren't paying attention. Sonja even stopped talking so she could breathe
A flatish section along the ascent. Beautiful morning for being outside.
Sometimes along the ridge there'd be a clearing and we would catch sight of distant mountains like the Wedge here on the left.
A bit of snow makes an appearance.. so far it hasn't been very obtrusive and we're able to skirt around it.
We'll be headed. towards the hill on the left. The trail cuts into the trees.
Some deadfall from an old fire. From what I could find there were some perscribed burns here in 2011.
After treking north through the trees for a while we emerge below this talus field.
Following cairns and footsteps along the edge of the talus field in the snow.
Starting to get some views west towards Mt Kidd. Fortress is on the left.
We take a hard left and start up the loose rubble.
Tricky tricky when hiking up talus.
Are we done? is the terrain starting to mellow out?
At times there's a bit of a path scratched out.
It's tedious but not difficult.
Natasha's all smiles as near the top of the talus field.
View of an old burn and the slope seems to be flattening out. Soon we'll be hiking along a ridge line on more agreeable footing.
Photo by Natasha.. It's me! well part of me.
After the talus, we pop out on top of some cliffs, they make for great photo ops.
A view of the cliffs that we're ascending on. Mcdougall at center and Volcano peak on the right.
Just like Table mountain!
Sonja capturing the scene.
