Paused to de-layer. It was -15deg at the car but as we hiked along it got a little bit warmer.
Checking the map after reaching the junction between the High rockies trail and the Rummel Lake turn off.
Jamie checking the map to make sure we're still on track and didn't miss the turnoff.
Tim and Meggie at the bottom of a dip in the trail. Overall the high rockies trail was pleasant to walk along.
We've reached the turnoff to the ridge. There isn't a specific trail here and the little arrow posted on the tree urges you to continue on towards Rummel Lake.
Not far onto our new trail and we're breaking out the snowshoes. There was a track that we were following but it quickly ended.
Changing gear from microspikes to snow shoes.
Into the forest we go. Jamie is leading the way.. Soon he'll be breaking trail.
Starting to ascend.. it's getting harder.
Higher up, the terrain opens up a little. We skirt the edge of the snowpack along the trees.
Skirting the snow slope by staying close to the treeline. Who knew ascending deep snow in snowshoes could be so difficult.
Tim coming up behind me. He'd lent me a pole because I stupidly left mine in the car and was graciously following my slowing pace so I didn't get left behind.
Sometimes when I need a break, I stop and take photos.
splunking through deep snow on a steep hill is really tiring.
Jamie broke trail and Meggie was close behind.. They had to wait for me to catch up.
For a few steps along this section we were able to walk on supportive slabby snow and it was way easier.. unfortunately it didn't last.
Tim bringing up the back.
Tricky.
It looks like we're getting closer to the ridge.
The views were nice.
Tim ascending the final snow slope with some pretty nice views in the background.
