  • Starting out at the Takakkaw falls parking lot. We'd stayed in Lake Louise overnight so we could get an early start. Our goal today is to get to Twin falls CG, setup camp then transition to day bags and hike up to Yoho peak before hiking back to camp. Our initial projections were off, we were expecting 20kms for the whole trip. In the end we hiked 27 kms over 12 hours ascending 1800m of elevation in the process but for now, we're all smiles :)

  • Crossing the first little bridge. The trails around Yoho are really good and well maintained.

  • Oops, a bit of a flood on the path. We followed muddy footprints to the right through the forest in an effort to bypass the water.

  • Along the trail was a very short side trip to 'Angel step falls'. Being new to the area we decided to partake. When heading out we passed another couple that were heading in.. we later ran into them and they said they saw a bear at the creek about 5 meters away. Looks like we just missed it.

  • Point Lace falls.. another short side trip. Hopefully there aren't too many more side trips or we're not going to get to our destination any time soon.

  • Ok, back on the main trail now. Conor has the bearspray out as we'd just run into the couple that saw a bear moments ago. We did not see any bears at all during our trip.

  • Hiking along the trail towards Twin Falls. Overall the trail is pretty flat, with the exception of this one hill that we're currently on.. There will be many more hills later on, but for now, we're making pretty good time.

  • Not sure why Yoho glacier route is so scratched out.. maybe it's a commentary on the state of glacial recession, or perhaps someone was just trying to keep it a secret. Also, Jesse wuz here!

  • The outrun from twin falls passes through this gap. The river/falls could be heard for quite a long distance.

  • To get to the top of the falls we followed the switch back trail.. it swings way right then way left before gaining the ridge where the falls originate. We're still feeling pretty good at this point.

  • Looking out over the edge of the ridge. Twin falls creating some mist. In the forest below I think our camp is near the small open patch left of center.

  • Turning towards the west and following the dry creekbed. Isolated mountain peeks out near the trees.

  • Looking back towards our approach valley. The mountain in the distance is Mt Niles. I hiked that a long time ago with Leon.
